Taganga is a funny place, it is called the Gringo paradise (= Foreigners paradise). So I expected there to be all sort of facilities like shopping malls, banks etc. And it certainly was very touristic, with a lot of restaurants and beach wear, but on the other hand, none of the streets were paved, the only atm it had was never working, the beach was not exactly clean etc. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful place to be and the ideal location to visit various other local attractions, such as the Tayrona park, Santa Marta or the lost city trek.
There wasn’t much to do in Taganga and people really used this town to only lie on the beach and get to the other places around it. So although I spent a lot of nights in Taganga, I didn’t really spend much time there. I just went for 2 dives, watched the fishermen unload their boats, and used it to organize the rest of my trip. The two dives were also not the most amazing. I mentioned this to a diving instructor and told him, that I wasn’t very impressed. After I said that I had been diving in Jordan the previous year, he mentioned that really I had seen the most beautiful dive spot in the world and shouldn’t expect anywhere else to match this…. that’s too bad…
