The journey to Mompox was quite a trip: 4 hours of bus, then 30min on a tiny little boat and then another 40min of taxi ride…. but it was most certainly worth it!
Mompox is a very chilled out town by a river. The streets are all empty during the day, the shops are closed, but once the sun goes down, everyone seems to gather on their front porches and pull out their rocking chairs. At night, the area in front of the church would get very crowded with food vendors, tons of children trying out their new bikes and even more teenagers with their motorbikes flirting with the girls of the village.
Mompox is really a tiny little town, and I believe the most interesting part of it is its cemetery. The cemetery is very beautiful in some ways, with its white marble stones, the numerous cats that gather there, the colorful flowers all over. It is also a very peaceful place, where you can sit down on a bench without being constantly approach by Mompox men.
